About

Welcome to The Nog Logs!

I'm Megan, and I'll be your humble host for the time you're here!

First things first, I kind of decided that starting a blog sounded like a great idea and was really interested in using it as a sort of log of my doings and goings on for myself and family & friends who don't live as near!

I quickly learned that blogging is no joke and actually takes a for-real commitment!  I started out slowly, and then got going pretty good, before running into a giant blog wall where I pretty much turned into a ghost!  But, I'm back, feeling much better and looking forward to giving this another go!

So....you're probably a bit curious about who I am and what I'm all about, which, I'm assuming is why you clicked on that little "About" tab at the top of the page - and not because you're some sort of crazy stalker!  Kidding, kidding...but seriously, let's get down to it, shall we?

I did most of my growing up in a small Western Michigan town near the lake.  Now I live in a bit larger of a city a little farther away from the lake with my main squeeze, Rob, and fur babe, Gatsby!

I moved to Grand Rapids in October 2009 for a job and a boy (I know, I know....), then in January 2010 I got dumped (shocker right?!).  It actually turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me because only a few months later I walked into Rob's apartment to meet a friend for a night out, we've been together ever since, and I couldn't be happier!

So, now you know where I come from and who has my heart, and if you're still with me, I'm guessing you want to know what makes me tick, huh?

Well, I am completely obsessed with several age inappropriate things, like YA Books, Disney, and My Little Pony!  I'm a total Potter Head and was ecstatic when Rob surprised me with a trip to Orlando, Florida to visit Hogwarts!!

Okay, so if you're not freaked out and have given up on me yet, I'll move on to some more adult-y hobbies!

I love to bake and try out new recipes!  Learning how to decorate cakes was one of my long-time goals so I took a couple of Wilton classes and fell in love!  You can catch up on the classes and see some of my...ummm...{masterpieces} for yourself here

1.  My first ever decorated cake!  Part of the Wilton Class I took!
2.  My final Wilton Class cake!  I was obsessed with the basket weaved look!
3.  My friend and former co-worker's 40 birthday cake!  She's a big Pearl Jam nut!
4.  Rob's nephew's 1st Birthday Cake!  "Lil Man" themed party!  This was fun to make!
I also love a good craft beer, and wine tasting, and really anything to do with having a adult beverages!  My friends and I love to explore new breweries and seek out new things to sip!  Rob and I have checked off several of the breweries in state so far, but there are more and more popping up every day!

Clockwise from Top Left:  1. Wine Tasting with Friends in Northern Michigan 2013 (at Good Neighbor Organic), 2. Founders Fest 2013 Fun with the Freak Show Clown(There was an actual traveling Freak Show at the Festival), 3. Rob and I outside in front of a vineyard in Northern Michigan 2013

I would be completely lost without my family and friends.  They are the main people who have influenced my life and are the reason I am who I am today.  I tell myself every day how lucky I am to have their encouragement, love and support!

Clockwise from Left:  1. My mom, Lauren (my younger sister) and I - Christmas 2011ish, 2. Mom and Lauren goofing around, and 3. Lauren and I - Christmas 2014

As far as best friends go, I've got the best!  Her name is Allison, and she's awesome!  I've known her since 2nd grade.  We graduated from high school together and even shared our graduation open house (there were 9 cakes...but that's a story for a different time!), and went to the same college.  My life would be far less colorful without her!  Plus it's really nice to have a best pal to watch, see, and do all the crazy stuff Rob rolls his eyes at with!

From Left:  1. High School Senior Year - 2002, 2. Graduation Day, Post Ceremony - 2003, 3. Best Friend Paddle Exchange on my 21st Birthday

Last but certainly not least.... I present you with the fur babe.

Gatsby is my large and in-charge feline friend.  He really knows how to put the Great in Gatsby if you know what I mean!  (Geesh...I am full of so many lame jokes! Haha)  He weighs in at about 25 pounds and has been on a kitty diet his entire life.  I adopted him from a shelter in 2007 when he was 5 months old, and he's the only cat that's been in my family.  He's definitely a lover and sure loves a good belly rub!  And, boy is he a cuddler - he's always got to be near one of us, but can be usually be found curled up on Rob's lap!

I'm so glad you stopped by!  I hope you enjoy poking around here!  Feel free to comment below, email me anytime at thenoglogs@gmail.com, or follow along on other platforms!  I'd love to hear from you!
